A Message From the Captain

King David Mowbray Golf Club | Urban Golf Course in Cape Town

Dear Members,

As we move into the heart of winter, I’m delighted to share that our greens are almost back to their previous best. The recovery has been slower than usual this year, largely due to our decision to delay hollowtining for the Sunshine Tour Pro-Am event, followed by an especially wet spell.

I want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we navigated these challenges. The improvement we’re seeing now is a testament to both our grounds team’s dedication and the resilience of our course.

With the course in such good shape, it’s a timely reminder that membership renewal is upon us.

Our club is in a really positive space at the moment—whether it’s the quality of the course, the facilities, or the camaraderie among members. It’s been wonderful to see the demand for tee times, especially on Wednesdays and Saturdays, as it speaks volumes about the vibrancy of our club. With membership numbers nearly at capacity, the Board continues to review the possibility of closing membership on a monthly basis. I’d encourage everyone to renew before the end of the month to ensure your place for another fantastic year ahead. If you haven’t received your renewal notice, please reach out to Natasha, our Membership Manager, who will be happy to assist.

I also want to address the City of Cape Town’s proposed redevelopment of the King David Mowbray Golf Course and surrounds. This is a matter that affects every one of us and the future of our club.

I’m pleased to share that the deadline for public comments has now been extended to 7 August 2026, giving members and the wider community additional time to have their voices heard.

The Board continues to engage actively with all relevant stakeholders to protect the future of King David Mowbray Golf Club. However, the strength of our collective voice will play a critical role in this process. A significant number of well-considered objection letters will send a clear message to the City that these proposed development plans are not supported by our members or the broader community. Every submission counts, and together we have an opportunity to demonstrate just how strongly we value this historic club and its role within Cape Town.

I therefore encourage every member to review the proposal and submit your comments before 7 August 2026. If you need any guidance or assistance with the submission process, please don’t hesitate to speak to either myself or Jason, our General Manager. Together, we can make our voices heard and help protect King David Mowbray Golf Club for generations to come.

On a lighter note, it was a real pleasure to host the Captains’ Dinner on 15 June. The turnout was a full house, and it was truly special to see so many of you there. I hope this marks the beginning of a revived tradition for our club—one that we can look forward to making an annual highlight.

A heartfelt thank you to Shukri Conrad, our guest speaker, for his insightful and engaging presentation. My sincere thanks also go to our staff, whose hard work made the evening such a memorable success, and to each of you who attended for your support and for contributing to a wonderful evening.

Thank you for your continued commitment to King David Mowbray Golf Club.

Here’s to many more great rounds, shared laughs and memorable moments together.
